This course offers a multi-layered exploration of the fundamentals of campaigning, largely focused on the environmental movement and specifically upon ongoing ocean conservation efforts spearheaded by various non-governmental organizations that interact with the North American corporate, governmental, and philanthropic sectors. The first weekend will focus on the acquisition of fundamental knowledge and principles regarding the state of the environment (again, focused on but not limited to oceanic issues) and will examine the role of the geopolitics in regard to environmental crises. The second weekend moves above and beyond politics and government to concentrate on corporations as primary drivers of change, focuses on the quintessential tactics of corporate campaigning and, perhaps most importantly, examines the principles of human relationships that are integral to the process (but all too often overlooked).
